Cryptanthus zonatus or commonly known as the striped blushing bromeliad of the pineapple family is a beautiful, colourful plant almost impossible to resist. This Cryptanthus produces a rosette of deep burgundy or nearly black leaves with irregular white crossbands on the leaves. They have small dimensions not exceeding ten centimetres with fully mature plants being even smaller in size. This tropical beauty is very easy to grow and maintain and looks great spilling from terra cotta coloured container gardens, mixed container gardens.
The dark-leaved Cryptanthus has dark leathery leaves with white or yellow stripes. The foliage is very decorative, it does not last for years unlike the bright red-leaved--strange but true. So if you are looking for colour this unique plant will brighten up the area it is placed in, or use it as an accent plant.
