It is a flowering shrub with small, glossy, dark green, and aromatic leaves. This plant can be grown year-round indoors in bright indirect light; nevertheless, because it is a tropical plant, it enjoys warmth and humidity. The dark green leaves make a dramatic backdrop for the highly fragrant cream-coloured flowers. The shrub blooms most of the year. The flowers are followed by small oval red fruits with one or two seeds.
