Pinnacle Rose

The 'Pinnacle' rose is a distinguished Floribunda variety, celebrated for its striking bicolor blooms and robust growth characteristics. Developed by American breeder Frank A. Benardella in 2001, it was introduced to the United States market in 2004 by Certified Nurseries under the registration name 'BENiowa'. 

Bloom Characteristics

'Pinnacle' roses showcase small to medium-sized, very double flowers, each comprising 16 to 35 petals with an average diameter of approximately 2.5 inches. The blooms are notable for their white petals edged with scarlet red on the upper side, and a silver hue on the reverse, creating a captivating visual contrast. These roses exhibit a classic hybrid tea bloom form and are typically produced in small clusters. While their fragrance ranges from none to mild, they compensate with their vibrant and abundant blossoms that appear in flushes throughout the growing season. 

Plant Habit and Foliage

This variety grows into a medium, compact shrub, reaching heights of 2 to 3 feet. It features medium-sized, semi-glossy, green foliage that complements its vivid blooms. The plant's tidy growth habit makes it suitable for various garden settings, including beds, borders, and containers. 

Cultivation and Care

'Pinnacle' roses thrive in USDA hardiness zones 6b through 9b. They prefer well-drained soil with a neutral to mildly alkaline pH and benefit from full sun exposure to promote optimal blooming. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, to maintain soil moisture without waterlogging. In potted environments, it's recommended to water approximately 0.8 cups every 9 days when the plant doesn't receive direct sunlight, adjusting as necessary based on environmental conditions. 

To encourage continuous blooming, it's advisable to remove spent flowers promptly. Annual spring pruning involves eliminating old, dead, or diseased wood and trimming back canes that cross each other. In warmer climates, reducing the remaining canes by about one-third is beneficial, while in colder regions, more extensive pruning may be necessary to stimulate healthy growth. 

Disease Resistance

This variety is noted for its vigor and resistance to common rose diseases, making it a reliable choice for gardeners seeking a low-maintenance yet visually appealing rose. However, regular monitoring and appropriate cultural practices, such as ensuring good air circulation and proper watering techniques, are recommended to maintain plant health.
