Pyracantha (Firethorn) Shrub
Pyracantha popularly known as Firethorn has shrubby natural growth that presents ornamental interest, as well as providing a tasty fall treat. These hardy evergreen small trees have thorny lush leaves. The shrub presents an elegant view of showy white flowers in the spring. The flowers later give way to clusters of red berries that decoratively dangle from the bush in autumn. Pyracantha performs well in both full sun or shade, well-drained soils with more moisture than is average and adapts well to occasional pruning.
Firethorn grows to form ornamental trees, which make a more definite statement in the borders; in addition to its promising display, the shrub is highly productive, yielding tons of tasty fall berries. These are suitable to be grown in subtropical and temperate regions.
